Jaime Trick is an orthopedic physiotherapist who works with Olympic, amateur elite and development athletes, as well as people of all ages and backgrounds. She has an additional unique interest in patients with chronic and recurrent pain who have failed other treatment approaches and therapies.
Background:
Her choice of a career in physiotherapy arose from a keen interest in her own recovery from injuries sustained while participating as a youth in figure skating, track and field and cross country.
Education and Certifications:
While attending Queen’s University to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Jaime was the captain of the figure skating team and an Academic All-Canadian. After completing her undergraduate degrees, she received her Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto. Jaime is certified in acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada; a Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) practitioner; and a Level 3 Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy therapist. She has completed additional courses in concussion management, therapeutic taping, functional movement assessment, injury prevention and reconditioning.
GunnIMS and Chronic Pain: After achieving full certification in GunnIMS/dry needing, Jaime became one of the few therapists in the Ottawa-area with this expertise. Having had a mother with chronic-fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and recurrent radicular pain, Jaime felt drawn to helping this unique, poorly understood population achieve wellness. Though IMS is not the only therapy for people with chronic pain, it can often be used in conjunction with other approaches to achieve successful reduction in pain and improve quality of life. Jaime works with compassion, empathy and patience while helping those with chronic pain and particularly loves the challenge of helping those who have been turned away by other medical professionals.
Triathlon Life: In her life before children, Jaime took up triathlon and became an Ironman in 2012, completing Ironman Canada in Penticton. She has since worked closely with Canadian ITU triathletes, age-group champions in 51.50, 70.3 and IM distances, as well as weekend warriors.
Olympic Experience as a Physio: Jaime took on the role of Integrated Support Team (IST) Medical Lead for the Canadian National Pentathlon Team in 2011. She was part of the Canadian medical team at both the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto and to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
Covid Safety: Why am I still masking and requiring masking? Because two of my immediate family members are immunocompromised. My children attend virtual school within OCDSB - but we love to hang out with friends and family outdoors! I have attracted a lot of immunocompromised patients because of my covid-cautiousness. If this doesn’t jive with you, I’m happy to refer you to other capable therapists!
Family Life: Jaime lives in Ottawa with her husband and two children. She spends the warmer months of the year with the Ottawa Bicycle Club (OBC) in the Gats and her winters at Nakkertok with her children’s development and racing programs.
You can find Jaime running along the canal, cycling in the Gats and Zwifting in Watopia.
